About St Mary's
St. Mary's Catholic Primary School is situated in Beckenham, in the London Borough of Bromley on land leased to Bromley Council by a religious order- The Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The school is fortunate in having three playgrounds, a large playing field and is in walking distance of Beckenham Place Park.
St Mary’s is a larger than average Primary School, with 427 pupils. The school has a 100% Catholic intake serving the three parishes of St Edmunds - Beckenham, St Mark’s- West Wickham and Holy Rosary – Hayes. There is significant demand for places at the school due to high educational standards and expectation as well as the strong Catholic ethos.
The staff, parents and governors of St Mary’s share high aspirations for all the pupils. The school’s aim is to provide an education where each child is able to realize his or her true potential academically, physically, morally, socially and spiritually.
The school is fortunate in having a committed and dedicated governing body. Governors play a crucial role in ensuring that solid school improvement and self evaluation procedures are implemented.
The school has a very active Parent Teacher Association made up of an innovative group who give generously of their time and expertise. The PTA are adept at securing support and active involvement from all parents. The Class Rep system is a valuable link between home and school.
St Mary’s benefits form a wide range of extra curricular activities and opportunities which include Dance, ICT, Athletics, Cross Country, Art, French, Spanish, Football and Drama.
The school has recently been accredited with the Challenge Award, a prestigious award acknowledging commitment and provision for more able, gifted and talented children. The school also holds Healthy Schools status and Artsmark Silver.
